About this work

Dawn in Shades of Purple (รุ่งอรุณในเฉดสีม่วง) is a watercolour painted in 2026 by Bunleang Dumthongsuk, a Poh-Chang-trained Thai painter known for his range of subjects and techniques, measuring 50 × 60 cm including frame, and it shows a morning still life on a table draped in soft blue-grey, with a white cup on its saucer beside a porcelain bowl of oranges and deep red cherries, adorned with pale yellow blossoms and green sprigs that trail across the tabletop, all set against loose, flowing washes of deep violet, blue and magenta that evoke the sky just before daybreak and contrast with the gentle light of the table below, capturing the calm of the first moments of the day over a quiet drink among flowers and fruit, presented in an ornate carved frame in antique silver-gold in the classic European style, ready to hang in a dining room, living room or a favourite coffee corner at home.
