About this work
Ang Kaew, Chiang Mai University (อ่างแก้ว) is a 35 × 45 cm acrylic painting from 2013 by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism, and it shows Ang Kaew, the reservoir on the Chiang Mai University campus at the foot of Doi Suthep, its still blue-green water filling nearly half the canvas and mirroring the trees along the bank in fresh green, yellow-green and touches of pinkish-red blossom, with hazy blue hills stretching behind beneath a soft green-blue sky, the quick strokes of the foliage set against smooth, gentle sweeps on the water, in the Impressionist tradition, capturing the calm and cool air of a spot beloved by Chiang Mai locals and CMU alumni alike
