About this work

Disco 3 (ตะวันแดงดิสโก้ 3) is an 83 × 110 cm acrylic painting from 2012 by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism. A blazing white orb sits at the centre, ringed by smaller lights in soft pink, warm apricot and white, each flaring into a star. Beams of white, lilac-blue and pale yellow burst outward in every direction like an explosion of light against a ground of muted green and dark grey. The radial composition draws the eye to the heart of the canvas, and the light fades gently from dazzling brightness into shadow, giving the feeling of standing beneath the stage lights in the middle of a dance floor. The third and most intense, centred work in his Disco series
