About this work

Mountain Chiang Mai Thailand 5 (ดอยสุเทพ 5) is a 60 × 80 cm acrylic painting by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism, and it shows the rounded summit of Doi Suthep rising at the centre, cloaked in deep green forest touched with pink-violet wildflowers along the ridge, with a second pale blue peak half-hidden in the mist behind, dense foliage scattered with orange-red blossoms in the foreground and slender blades of grass rising in the lower right corner, beneath a heavy sky of blue-grey rain clouds where cream and apricot light breaks through above the peak, the short, dense strokes of the forest set against the softer handling of the sky, in the Impressionist tradition, capturing the brooding stillness of the mountain just before rain, the fifth work in his Doi Suthep series
