Red Power (พลังสีแดง) is an 83 × 110 cm acrylic painting by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism, and it is an abstract composition of large, angular geometric forms that overlap and fold into one another like fragments of architecture or machinery seen up close, painted almost entirely in vivid red that shifts from orange-red to violet-pink where the light catches the planes, set against recesses and shadows of deep purple-black that give the forms depth, its smooth surface and precise gradations of light and shade turning flat shapes into solid, almost tangible masses, revealing a different side of the artist from his landscapes while staying rooted in his lifelong focus on light, shadow, form and weight, and filling the canvas with the energy, heat and confidence of red, ideal for a modern interior, office, lobby or living room that calls for a bold statement piece.

ANUCHAT THANANCHAI

Emerging ArtistIn the early years of an artistic career, building a body of work and exhibition experience.

Biography

Anuchat Thananchai was born in Chiang Mai, where his love for art began at a young age. His inspiration came from his father, a skilled goldsmith who created various types of intricate jewelry and carvings. He witnessed his father’s work throughout his childhood and developed a deep appreciation for the detail and artistic creativity. In his teens, Anuchat chose to pursue his dream by studying drawing at the Sirikorn School of Art during his high school years. He later focused on painting and printmaking at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna. He then pursued art education at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University and continued his studies, earning a master’s degree in educational administration from Naresuan University. Throughout his studies, he was greatly inspired by French Impressionist art. This had a significant influence on his artistic style in painting landscapes, seascapes, and rendering works of art based on fundamental elements such as light and shadow, form, shape, colour and weight, and tactile movement. After graduating, Anuchat dedicated himself to creating and teaching art. He participated in more than twenty art exhibitions. Between 1982 and 1984, he founded an art school, teaching high-school students (grades 10–12) in a vocational programme, and has guided and inspired many students to become professional artists. Anuchat’s greatest joy comes from creating art, because it deeply rewards him to see that people can feel happiness and an emotional connection through his artwork.
