About this work

Composition 3 (องค์ประกอบศิลป์ 3) is a 100 × 120 cm acrylic painting by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism. It is an abstract composition of large, rounded forms that overlap and intertwine, flowing, twisting and stretching like stream-worn stones, tree roots or living shapes moving through shadow. Each form is lit in creamy green and pale grey, set against recesses of deep green, muted blue and dark violet. The soft gradations of light and shade give every shape mass and a smooth, sculptural surface. The third work in his Composition series, it builds atmosphere from light, shadow and form alone, but unlike the first two, it is full of movement and organic shapes, leaving it open to each viewer's own reading.
