About this work

Mountain Chiang Mai Thailand 4 (ดอยสุเทพ 4) is a 60 × 80 cm acrylic painting by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism, and it shows a sea of mist on Doi Suthep, white cloud pouring over the ridge like a breaking wave or waterfall and wrapping around a forested green peak, with lush forest flecked with orange-red and pink wildflowers in the foreground and a heavy grey sky above, where light breaks through at the centre and touches of pink and pale blue open up on the right, the soft handling of mist and cloud set against short, dense strokes in the forest, in the Impressionist tradition, capturing the movement of the mist and the mystery of the mountain in the early morning or after rain, the fourth and most dramatic work in his Doi Suthep series
