About this work

Untitled 3 (ไม่มีชื่อ 3) is an 80 × 90 cm acrylic painting by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism. It is an abstract composition of hundreds of low-poly triangles, each outlined in a fine black line like stained glass or mosaic, in pale blue, bright blue, blue-grey and creamy white. A white grid, like graph paper, shows through in places behind them, while bands of deep navy curve through the whole canvas like currents of water, wind or shadow passing across a field of ice crystals. The shifting light and dark of each triangle stand in for light and shadow, giving the flat surface depth and movement. Compared with Movement, which uses the same visual language, this work has smaller, denser facets, and its title leaves it open to each viewer's own reading.
