Composition 4 (องค์ประกอบศิลป์ 4) is a 120 × 100 cm acrylic painting by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism. It is an abstract composition of long, curving forms that rise vertically and intertwine, like tree trunks, great roots or rock formations in a cave lit by patches of light. The central forms glow in pale creamy green against deep, almost black-brown recesses, while the edges of the canvas turn to golden brown, olive and warm grey. Soft gradations of light and small glinting highlights give each form mass and a moist, almost tangible surface, like sculpture. The fourth work in his Composition series, it continues the organic forms of Composition 3 but in warmer tones and a tall, upright arrangement that evokes a deep forest or a quiet cave, leaving it open to each viewer's own reading.
