About this work

Movement (ความเคลื่อนไหว) is an 80 × 90 cm acrylic painting by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism, and it is an abstract composition built from hundreds of faceted triangles in a low-poly style, in pale blue, bright blue, navy and white over a background of fine white grid lines like graph paper, with two deep navy forms at the centre, resembling fish or sea creatures with jagged, open jaws, circling towards each other in opposite directions to form a spinning loop reminiscent of a yin-yang symbol, the shifting light and dark of each triangle standing in for light and shadow so that the flat surface gains depth and seems to swirl like a current of water, revealing a side of the artist that joins his lifelong focus on light, shadow, form and movement with a contemporary digital visual language
