About this work
Green Power (พลังสีเขียว) is a 100 × 120 cm acrylic painting from 2012 by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism. It is an abstract composition of large, angular geometric forms that overlap and refract into one another like crystal or fragments of architecture seen up close. Green dominates the canvas, ranging from lime and bright yellow-green to deep leaf green, with touches of blue at the top and right, set against black recesses that give the forms depth and weight. The smooth surface and precise gradations of light and shade turn flat planes into three-dimensional, almost translucent masses reminiscent of jade. A companion to Red Power in the same visual language, it trades the heat of red for the freshness, balance and natural energy of green.
