About this work

Purple Power (พลังสีม่วง) is a 100 × 120 cm acrylic painting from 2012 by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism. It is an abstract composition of large angular forms that overlap and fold into one another, like amethyst crystal or flower petals seen up close. A pale lavender-blue band arches across the upper part of the canvas and frames a row of sharp, saw-toothed peaks below, rising like crystal points. Purple dominates the whole work, ranging from deep violet and blue-purple to pinkish mauve and lavender, set against dark, almost black-blue recesses. The smooth surface and soft gradations of light make each plane look translucent and dimensional. It has a more mysterious, calm and luxurious mood than the other works in the series. Part of the same series as Red Power, Green Power, Yellow Power and Orange Power
