About this work
Field Chiang Mai Thailand 1 (ทุ่งนาสันป่าตอง 1) is a 35 × 45 cm acrylic painting by Anuchat Thananchai, a Chiang Mai-born painter inspired by French Impressionism, and it shows lush green rice fields in San Pa Tong district, Chiang Mai, spreading wide and divided by earthen bunds that lead the eye into the distance, with a cluster of tall coconut palms rising among dark green trees on the left and a line of trees and a hazy blue mountain beyond, beneath a soft blue-grey sky where pale light breaks through the clouds, the carefully graded light and shade across the paddies, in the Impressionist tradition, capturing the cool air of the northern Thai countryside at dawn or dusk and the calm of simple rural life
